Pilling is totally normal—it's when tiny balls of fibre form on the surface from everyday use and friction (like sitting or brushing against it).
It's not a fault or defect, and it won’t affect the fabric’s durability. The good news? It’s easy to fix with a fabric shaver or even a vacuum. Once the loose fibres are gone, pilling usually stops.
